Day 22 - The Parador Hotel has quite a history and some of it very dark.

Originally a pilgrim hospital built in the 12th century, it became the HQ of the Knights of the Order of Santiago formed to protect the Pilgrim Way. Later it was acquired by King Ferdinand and became a monastery. As a hospital it treated patients with smallpox and typhoid and tragically it was a notorious prison and concentration prison during Franco's civil war. Over 20,000 were imprisoned during this period with unspeakable torture and hardships resulting in many deaths.
